APP·01 / Project reader

EYEPIECE

A free Mac app that reads your Ableton Live, Logic, GarageBand or FL Studio project and writes a snapshot in text that you paste into your AI.

Free Mac app · .dmg macOS 11+

macOS 11+ · app (.dmg) · universal · signed & notarized by Apple · macOS only

EYEPIECE's window with the example project that comes with the app: WHAT IT SEES (6 findings, each with its number), WHAT IT DOESN'T SEE (31 coverage entries, each with its reason), the Copy the snapshot button and the snapshot itself — SESSION, ARRANGEMENT, MIX, LOADED PRESET and WHAT STANDS OUT.
// What it sees

Your project, as text your AI can read.

Open EYEPIECE and it finds the project you saved most recently. It reads the file and writes a snapshot: what is in the session, what stands out — each line with its number and the id of its rule — and what it did not read, each with its reason. You see the snapshot before you copy it. Your AI gives the advice; EYEPIECE only reads.

SESSION

The DAW and its version, tempo, time signature, tracks, clips, notes and devices, in one line. In the example: Ableton Live 12.1.1 · 120 BPM · 4/4 · 13 tracks + 2 returns · 93 notes.

ARRANGEMENT · MIX

The shape of the song — where there is material and which tracks come in when — and the mixer: pans at the centre, faders at 0 dB, sends at the floor.

LOADED PRESET

For Arturia plugins, the preset that was loaded: “9-Pigments” › Pigments: “Bamboo And Water”. Whether it was edited afterwards, the file doesn't say.

WHAT STANDS OUT

Findings, each with its number and the id of the rule that produced it: audio files that are not there, notes that never play back, tracks without material, identical layers. It points; it doesn't judge.

COVERAGE

What it did not read or could not verify, each with its reason. The example has 31 entries; the last one: “the audio: nothing was listened to or measured”.

AVAILABLE ON REQUEST

The detail stays out of the summary. If your AI needs it, it asks for a code — eq:, notes:, plug: — and EYEPIECE copies just that block.

// The example, as it comes out
SESSION · Ableton Live 12.1.1 · 120 BPM · 4/4 · unknown key · 13 tracks + 2 returns · 11 clips (0 in take lanes) · 93 notes (0 in take lanes) · 23 devices
ARRANGEMENT · 1 span with material: bars 1–56 (54.2 of 55.9 bars, 1:52) · 8 of 8 tracks with material come in at bar 1 (1 muted, left out) · 11 clips in the arrangement (2 with missing audio), 0 in Session · tracks with material every 8 bars: 8×7
MIX · pan at the exact center: 11 of 11 tracks with material · fader at 0.0 dB: 6 of 11 · sends at the floor (-inf): 26 of 26
LOADED PRESET · “9-Pigments” › Pigments: “Bamboo And Water” (Factory · Gustavo Bravetti · SFX) · “10-Pigments” and “11-Pigments” › Pigments: “Fingered Bass” (Pigments 2.0 · Victor Morello · Bass)
WHAT STANDS OUT
…
  · 2 of 2 audio clips point to 2 files whose stored path does not exist: “3A - 122.8 - PERCLOOP43” and “1B - 123.0 - PERCLOOP14”. [samples.missing]
…
  · 8 of 93 notes (9%) are in the file and do not play back: 8 outside what their clip shows. [notes.silent]
…
COVERAGE · 31 entries, each with its reason (the detail: coverage:all)
…
  · the audio: nothing was listened to or measured — this version reads only the project file (no stems, no spectrum, no loudness): every number in this snapshot comes from the file
Lines from the snapshot of the example project that comes with the app, in English. “…” marks lines left out here.
// How to use it

Open it. Copy the snapshot. Paste it into your AI.

  1. Open EYEPIECE. It finds the project you saved most recently on its own — or drop one on the window. No project at hand? See an example project: it comes with the app.
  2. Copy the snapshot. You see it before you copy it, and the button copies exactly what you see on the sheet, not one character more.
  3. Paste it into your AI, with your question. If it's missing a detail, it will ask you for a code: paste that into EYEPIECE and copy those blocks.

When you save the project again, EYEPIECE notices, reads it again and tells you. It never copies on its own.

// What it doesn't see

It reads the file. It doesn't listen.

Every number in the snapshot comes from the project file. What the file doesn't say, EYEPIECE doesn't guess — and the snapshot writes down what it left out.

No audio

Version 0.1 reads only the project file: nothing is listened to or measured — no stems, no spectrum, no loudness.

Ableton Live, in depth

Tracks, clips, notes, devices, third-party plugins and the mix. Verified up to Live 12.3.7; a newer set is read anyway, and the snapshot says so.

Logic and GarageBand, first level

Tempo, time signature, key, how many tracks and the audio files. Not the tracks, the mix, the plugins or the notes: they live in the project's binary, which this version doesn't read.

FL Studio, first level

The version, the tempo, the Channel Rack channels with their type, the patterns and the plugins by name — not the notes, the playlist, the mix or the knobs. Verified with 181 projects from FL 10 to FL 2026.

Knobs, with their evidence

Each native parameter comes out verified, inferred (†) or raw, and the rules only look at the verified ones. In the example, of 1,444 native parameters: 303 verified, 519 inferred, 622 raw.

No advice, no AI inside

It doesn't suggest, recommend or rate: “should”, “better” or “professional” are banned from its sentences. There is no AI inside — the advice comes from the one you already use.

// Requirements

A Mac, and your project.

System: macOS 11 or newer Chip: Apple Silicon and Intel (universal) Projects: Ableton Live (.als) · Logic · GarageBand · FL Studio (.flp) Interface: English · Español · 日本語 — English and Spanish are reviewed; Japanese is a translation nobody has reviewed yet, and the window says so Internet: not needed · it sends nothing Price: free · closed source Windows: not in 0.1
// Privacy

No internet. Your project, untouched.

EYEPIECE reads your project without changing it and sends nothing anywhere. The only thing that leaves is what you copy.

Read, never modified

It opens the project to read it, never to write it.

No network

Not one request, no telemetry, no server: EYEPIECE works without the internet.

You choose what leaves

You read the snapshot before you copy it. What you paste into an AI goes to that AI, under its own rules.

// With TELESCOPE

TELESCOPE measures. EYEPIECE reads.

TELESCOPE measures the audio in your DAW; EYEPIECE reads the project file. The eyepiece is the part of the telescope you put your eye to — but in 0.1 the two don't talk yet: EYEPIECE doesn't read what TELESCOPE measures.
